Learn to SCUBA Dive

We offer SCUBA diving training for individuals aged 8 and above in the Champaign/Urbana area. With 40 years of experience, we guarantee a safe and enjoyable learning experience for all. The instructor, Justin Rhodes (PhD), has been SCUBA diving for 40 years since he was 13 years old.  He loves being under water and exploring sea creatures of all kinds especially fish.  He is deeply committed to inspiring others by sharing his passion for the wonders of nature under water.  When he is not instructing SCUBA divers he is a Professor at the University of Illinois.  He teaches Evolutionary Neuroscience and Applied Neuroscience to undergraduate and graduate students.  One of his research programs explores the neuroendocrinology of socially controlled sex change from male to female in clownfish (see website).

Frequently Asked Questions

What age groups do you cater to?
We cater to individuals aged 8 and above.

Do you provide equipment for training?

Yes, we provide all necessary SCUBA diving equipment for training, except we reccommend students purchase their own mask, fins, snorkel and wet suit shorty (3 mm).

How long does each training program last?

The duration of each training program varies, depending on the course level and individual progress.  The Bubblemakers class is one 2 hour session in the Indoor Aquatic Center.  The Confined Open Water training consists of 4 pool sessions each 2 hours.  The Curacao trip requires 2 days of diving, 2 dives per day, but involves travel and likely extended stay depending on interests.
